Baby shower for second baby?

So this is my second and I'm the first of my family and friends group to have a kid and now I'm pregnant again. Do people have a baby shower for each baby? My mother seems to think that I shouldn't because I still have everything from the first baby. But what if this new baby is a girl? I have no girl stuff... Just wondering what the etiquette is???

I say go for it. Why should your second baby be celebrated less than your first. Each baby is important not just the first born

I think when people do that its called a "sprinkle"! Not as big and as much of a big deal as a baby shower, but still something. Although, if the baby is a different sex than your first then I don't see why you shouldn't go all out for another shower!

The rule of thumb is you can have a shower for a first child, a large age gap, or a new gender. If you are having it for a new gender I would call it a baby sprinkle and really only expect smaller things like clothes.

Where I am from people do not do full blown second showers. There is an expectation that the parents provide what is needed for their family, not getting everything gifted for second, third, etc babies. That being said a lot of people do "sprinkles" that is a smaller get together for diapers, wipes etc for subsequent babies.

Traditionally second showers are against etiquette, but in today's times are becoming more common. In the end it's really what you want to do and what you think your family/friends are comfortable with.

I personally think each baby should be celebrated! It isnt even about the gifts. But if baby is same sex and you feel more comfortable maybe have diaper shower... Just have people bring diapers and wipes...

Im pregnant with my second and i am having a baby shower. Im getting flack from my mom and mil saying im being selfish. My oldest is 6. I got rid of all of her baby stiff years ago. Plus im having a boy this time and its my husbands first. If they want to make a big deal about it then its their loss

If someone offers to throw you one, i say accept! I had a shower for each of my boys, born 18 months apart, because my sweet church family threw them for me. I'm now pregnant with #3 and if someone wants to throw me a shower, I'd let them, but is probably have it more stuff for me centered, like a post partum girdle, or frozen meals, that kinda thing. I think it's sweet to celebrate the coming of every life, whether or not gifts are even exchanged.

My mom and sister took the money they would have spent on the baby shower for my 2nd princess (currently 33w) and pampered me (mani/pedi, really nice lunch out, new diaper bag) and bought things I needed for the nursery. I also have a registry for family and friends that should they decide they want to get me something then they can purchase the items I'm requesting off the list.

You can also have a Diaper Party :) guests just bring diapers. These are more about food and hanging out and no party games. If you look online it’s kind of the thing the dads do but no reason you couldn’t do it as a mixed party. Saves lots of money if everyone buys you a pack (or box) or diapers. :)
