Living arrangement dilemma

Ever since I got married I have always helped my husband financially maintain our home. My father-in-law lives with us and unfortunately my mother in law left the country a few years ago and was not able to return due to immigration status. Since my husband and I were able to maintain all expenses of our home, my FIL has never helped with anything for the home. I was laid off 2 years ago and tried to find another job to help but nothing. While doing the search I became pregnant (currently 31 weeks). Our struggle financially has got worse and I have suggested that my FIL help financially since he does have a full time job. My husband doesn't want to ask him for help since he is supporting my MIL out of the country. We currently rent a 3 bedroom home which my mom owns. My mom stays in one room when she is in town and rents the rest of the house out to us as a 2 bedroom home. My husband and I have one room which our toddler shares with us and my FIL has his own room. We are currently 1 month behind on our rent because he doesn't feel the need to ask for help from my FIL.  My husband has asked me to consider moving to a 2 bedroom Apartment that we use to live in 4 years ago where our rent would be cut down by 1/3 of what we pay now (We had no kids at the time). Because he doesn't feel the need to ask my FIL for financial help I don't feel I should bend over backwards and make things easy for him. The apt is not roomy, I would have to have my toddler and the new baby in one room with myself and my husband, while my FIL has his own private room FOR FREE. So I told him the only way I would move back is if my FIL does not move with us. I understand I have to support my husband in all, but I don't think he is putting us as a priority or even considering how this financial hardship is hindering my relationship with my mom aside from putting so much stress on me.
