Can a child succeed in Kindergarten without pre-school?

I'm in a situation that prevents me from sending my little one to pre-school. She recently just turned four. I've thought about it a lot considering I've been getting backlash from a 'friend' of mine for not sending her, although I legitimately can't at the moment due to circumstances.

As a former Kindergarten teacher, I was able to tell which child was in preschool and which was not. I could also tell which child had parents at home that worked with them on letters, numbers, shapes, etc. I think preschool is important IF the parent is not supplementing some educational material at home. If you work with your child to prepare them for kindergarten and do not send them to preschool, they will be fine. It's more a social learning environment. Unfortunately, kindergarten is not like it was when I was younger. It it extremely focused on sitting at a desk and pen and pencil work, which isn't developmentally appropriate for 4-6 year olds. But in short, preparing your child with letters, shapes, numbers, recognizing their name, they will be fine!

My son never went to preschool and he did amazing in kindergarten and is now half way through 1st grade. My daughter will be starting kindergarten this year and she hasn't been to preschool either. I work with her as much as she will let me at home.

It honestly just depends. You take the kid to the school and the teachers will test them and see what they know. They'll tell you if you need to take your kid to pre-school or not. My little sister was too smart for Preschool but I wasn't. It all depends on how high you can count and if you know the alphabet! You're kid will probably be fine without Preschool 😊

I know many successful students (as a violin teacher) who go on to do great things without having ever gone to elementary school at all! I work with a lot of homeschooled kids and they often get fantastic learning opportunities that mainstream students miss. However, I do think it's extremely important to have them involved in group learning opportunities such as the music program I teach at, homeschooling events, other learning classes, etc.

Head start and preschool are not required...there are kids that do better by not going and kids that do better by going...all depends on how you take time to teach your child

So long as you are paying attention to your child at home and encouraging them to learn and explore, they will be fine. I actually learned more in preschool than I did in kindergarten as a child, since kindergarten was like preschool on repeat.

As a stay at home mom we focus a lot of time playing learning games and at 2 it's become apart of his regular routine so I'm not concerned about registering my son for preschool. When I was going to school, preschool wasn't something commonly done, most kids first day of school was kindergarten.
