11 years old. Period. Tampons!!??

Question

So my younger sister is 11 years old and has just started her period. I was in total shock, I knew it was coming but didn't realise it was going to be so soon.

Anyway. She started at school during the day on Friday and only told my Friday night just as I was going to bed. I panicked because I don't really use pads so didn't have any and it was really late so shops were closed. I finally found one but my friend said to have given her a tampon.

Im not really keen on introducing her to using tampons I don't know why though, would anybody else give an 11 year old tampons to use or just pads?

I'm a pad person so, I would give her a pad and maybe talk to her about tampons. If she wants to use them that's fine too but for someone who is just starting out pads would maybe be the way to go at the moment :)

I'm not sure why but something for me seems not right with 11 yrs n tampons. I guess it would be her choice but I would recommend pads for a little while.

Honestly she should only use tannins if she has a swimming class at school or is responsible enough to remember to change it. I lucked out I guess and didn't start my period until freshman year of highschool. My lil sis started at 12. She uses pads only because she says they are more comfortable.

If she does choose tampons make sure she understands she needs to change them every few hours.

Personally I hate pads they make me feel dirty so I would have given her the choice but explained that tampons require more attention than pads as you can't see if there full or not and to replace them every 8hours

I think you should recommend that she uses tampons until she gets used to having her period and comfortable with her body and her flow and stuff. But then if she wants tampons I would give her some.

Pads for the first year, besides swimming and sports/gym class. I'm in my first year too!

I'm 13 and I got my period when I was 11. My mom gave me pads when I first started but now I used both. When my mom said a tampon would hurt a little, I tired it and it did hurt but if she doesn't like to use pads she can use a tampon. She just has to get used to the pain!😔😒

I used tampons from the second I started my period. I wasn't even twelve. I see it as being fine if she is responsible.
