3 names for girls?

Just curious is there a reason behind giving three names? Cultural or religious? Or just like 3. How often would they use all three?

I have 3 names.

Betty Katherine Louise.

I was the only one my mom got to name so she wanted to name me after people she loves. After my two grandmothers and my great grandmother.

I wonder if anyone ever give three names because they like all three and can't decide, then have another baby of the same gender and wish they saved one :)

I've given 3 of my children 2 middle names. 
The first was to give her my birth name, which had been changed at adoption.
The next two were to give family names from my husband's side.

We already had names we liked and so it made sense just to add those in instead of starting from scratch.

All my siblings and I have 4+ names. But then again we're half Hawaiian and we have crazy long Hawaiian names. My babies will have long names as well.

We have three names bc it was important to our daughter to name our son. And we each round a name we loved. Originally we did the idea bc we were going to name the baby after my brother who died
