Flu shot

I'm in remission. I'm hoping to go back to college in a week (I took the semester off). Should I get the flu shot before I go back?
Fear: whenever I got the flu shot, I got sick. I know this is because they are basically injecting the virus into you.
The last couple of years, I didn't get the flu shot; and I didn't get sick.
I just got a cold, and noticed it took a lot longer for me to get over it. I CANNOT afford to get sick while in school. I'm all for vaccinations, but I'm just scared with my immune system still being out of wack, getting the flu shot could be detrimental.
Thoughts, advice? Thanks!
