Breastfeeding painful?

I'm a FTM and I really want to breastfeed my baby but I've read that it can be extremely painful. Now I'm not sure what to do...can anyone share their experiences/give me some advice?

I agree with the others. The first several days were not pleasant. But once you both get the hang of it. It's not painful at all. Good luck and don't get discouraged. It's like a lot of other things on this journey- not easy, but worth it in the end!  😀

In all honesty, the initial latch is does sting for the first few days. Be diligent about first rubble breast milk on your nipples and then applying a nipple balm after every single feeding (until the discomfort subsides, not forever), and you'll minimize this. If it is truly painful, the baby's latch might be wrong- you can get assistance from a lactation consultant. My son was born with a tongue tie and couldn't get his tongue over his bottom palette (so he was biting directly on me- ouch!) until we got it fixed (at 3 days old), and then I had to train his tongue forward. There is also some cramping when you nurse at first because it helps the uterus shrink back down. It's definitely not a level of pain to worry about, more uncomfortable at times for a short while :) don't worry!

It is painful and uncomfortable at first. It takes some time for your nipples to adjust. But the pain goes away.

Breastfeeding is a beautiful gift you can give your child if you can take the pain. It was so painful for me for the first 4 months. It started out horribly painful but it got better. I️ Lanosh nipple cream that really helped. My daughter is 16 months now and loves breastfeeding and it is no longer painful...we’ll it wasn’t until I️ got pregnant again.

My lo beat my poor nipples up, I couldn't take the pain any longer and felt like the worse mom on earth because I couldn't get her to latch on right. But I just pumped milk out and gave it to her, it doesn't matter now the milk comes out as long as she gets it.

My daughter made both my nipples bleed within hours of being born, and the first week I curled my toes in pain every time she latched on. The pain is only brief though. I got Motherlove nipple cream and started applying it after every feeding in the hospital and it really helped. I mistakenly thought I was past it and stopped using the cream so diligently and the pain returned.

Painful yes...no sugar coating that one. But absolutely DOES get better.
