Sip an see?

For anyone who has had a sip an see or meet an greet after baby was born INSTEAD of a baby shower how old was your baby? I really don't want a baby shower, it wasn't  offered to be thrown and i feel it's pointless to spend hundreds of dollars on a shower myself  when that money could go towards the baby so I was thinking a sip an see because I'm not having hospital visitors either besides my IMMEDIATE FAMILY. the baby would remain in her bassinet, only being held by the people who I know have had the whooping couch vaccine which is my immediate family. I will serve drinks an refreshments an there will be decorations at my house. I will give a 4 hour visitation window so everyone doesn't have to be there at once and gifts would be welcome. I want to know who else has done this how did it turn out and how old do you recommend the baby is?

We will have a sip and see bbq when bubs is about 2 months old,maybe 3 it will just be a friends get together really my partners and mine,we'll serve beers and wine, put on food and I'll be carrying baby so everyone can have a look how gorgeous he is ☺️ But I'm just going to put on the invite I won't be passing baby around because he'll be unsettled after they leave,and also germs,I have no probs telling ppl that because they are friends they know me n what I'm like! We will also put on the invite nappies and wipes are welcome but not obligated!

A baby carrier like a tula or wrap is much more effective at keeping nosy hands away!

I was at my baby shower, because it was after I was born- I think they did it at three weeks - I was born a bit early and they didn't have much of anything ready ha! Anyway, now I would recommend waiting until baby has their own vaccines before holding one - just to protest and then you wouldn't have to worry about anyone wanting to touch/hold baby.

We did a sip-n-see on our first visit back to our home town, so baby was already 7 months old. But we had so many people who wanted to meet him that this was just the easiest way to do it. He napped about half of the time, but it worked out fine. Some people brought gifts, but most people just came to visit, see the baby, and catch up. It was a really nice, laid-back way to do it!

I didn't do this but a friend of mine did when her baby was about a month old. I think it's a fun idea! Good luck with people not holding your baby though, I hope that works out...we had to bring our then 2-3 week old son to all 5 of the family Christmas parties last month and I was so against random extended family holding him but it happened anyway. I would let Grandma or Auntie hold him and they would pass him off to another relative and another and before I could get a word in edgewise someone else would come up and scoop him up. Thank God he didn't get sick from it, after awhile I just let it go bc I had no way of knowing who was immunized or not and couldn't really stop them all from wanting to see him, after all he was the newest member of the fam and everyone was excited! I did go through a period where I checked his temp obnoxiously every day for like the next week though just to be sure he was fine. Lol.
