Anybody any experience with puppies and newborns ?

Is it true they "Know" to calm down? I'm worried ours will still be as jumpy and excitable, is learning other things fast but not  learning no jumping when excited X

I'd love to know this too. I'm terrified of our puppy and a new baby. The dog just turned a year and will be a year and a half when the baby is born. I'm not worried about him being mean but he's a St. Bernard and will be 200lbs full grown!!! He has such big paws and a huge head and the poor guy has no idea how big he is. He clearly thinks he's a tiny lap dog. I just don't know how it's going to workout with a baby( our original plan was to wait 2 more years before kids)

How old is the puppy? No puppies especially don't just know to calm down. Try some training, read up on it. If you do it consistently dogs love to learn and love to please.

You sound like you didn't really appreciate my comment. I don't really understand why you ask for people's input and act annoyed with it.

Well, dogs pick up on our body language & they typically react accordingly. When you yell and scream at a dog, it makes them more high strung and nervous. However, when a couple has a baby, typically our body language will soften, our voices are sweeter, we smile more, in general, we are more docile (sometimes simply because we don't want to wake the sleeping baby lol). Dogs, even puppies really do pick up on this stuff.
If your puppy gets carried away, don't freak out & scold her. Keep that calm demeanor that you have with your baby & say something like "settle down" & walk her into the other room for a few minutes so she can have a few minutes of quiet time. The key is to keep your home as calm as possible. With any luck, when your baby cries, your dog will look at him like "what's wrong with it? We are all calm & the little human isn't"? Calmness will be her new norm, instead of a hectic angry puppy parent yelling at her for being too active.
I used to train dogs, without seeing your dog its hard to specifically help, but calmness is a general rule of thumb with dogs and babies. Good luck

Us too, this baby was a miracle really, on the pill and have PCOS so totally unexpected !

Ours will be 9 months, she's very good really( not a mean bone in her body) just very excitable
