Popular baby names?

Question

Why do people let the popularity of a name detour them from using it? I've never understood this. If I like a name, I'll use it and forget what everyone else is using. Who cares?

I don't want my kid to be one of ten kids in her class with the same name. I only ever knew like 3-4 Stephanie's all the way through high school and I liked that. Hubby only knew ONE other Charles. So we like it that way.

Personally I just find common names boring. I liked growing up with a somewhat unusual name; it's an easy conversation starter. I want my kids to have interesting names too.

But I prefer interesting names with history, not just making names up out of the clear blue sky. 😬

I don't want to name my child a popular name. But that's because I work in a day nursery and I know what names are really common. There was a child who signed her own mothers birthday card Amelia. T. Because that's how she's known in nursery. But that's just me. But it doesn't bother me that there are 2 Amelia's 3 Lily's and 4 graces at all!! And I agree. Name your child what you want to. But that's just my personal opinion :)

I am asking the same question. I do prefer less common names and my boys have them but now for this girl I like names that are really popular.  
Names arent really as common as they used to be in the 80s/90s.  More names are used now so there will never be 10 of any name in a class.  Plus its only a small portion of their life they spend in school.

Coming from someone who had at least 3 other Jessica's in every class growing up, I personally don't want my child to have a very popular name. I like my name but I don't like how popular it was growing up always having to be referred to as jessica L. I'd like my child to have a less popular name it's just my preference

I honestly don't want like 4 other kids to have the same name as my child, but if a name is popular and I love it, I will use it. Thankfully the names I love are not common. Haha. I always knew so many Britneys growing up that it got kind of annoying.

I don't care about popularity either. My kids names are Hannah and Jacob. They're all over the place. I wanted a name that I was in love with, and they happened to be names many other parents also loved. This third one is getting a name that is rarer. Just coincidence.

Because people are idiots. Try finding a name that SOMEONE in the world doesn't have. Plus "unique" names aren't that great. Lol.
