Anyone have any experience with Mastitis?

I'm having pain in my lower right breast.  It started last night & the skin there is now red & swollen and vey tender to the touch.  Tonight I have a fever, chills & slight body ache but no other symptoms of a cold or flu.  I had clogged ducts with my first pregnancy but this feels different.   I read online that the most likely cause is Mastitis which won't affect the baby if I continue to nurse.  However I'm terrified to go near him in case I am getting sick.  He's only 3 weeks old & he was born 1 month premature.  We live in a small town so all the docs are closed til Monday except for the ER so I can't get in to see anyone to help ease my mind.  Anyone been through this & have any insight?

That's mastitis. Hot shower or soak in a bath and massage, massage, massage. Nurse as much as you can and even pump after to empty the breast. Nurse baby with chin pointing to the soreness if you can. I know that pain and get mastitis often. You can get antibiotics, but I never have and only lasted a day, maaaaybe a day and a half. I don't like the idea of my baby getting antibiotics from my milk. Hang in there.

Thanks for the advice everyone.  I'm feeling much better today.  Been using heat, massage & lots of breastfeeding & pumping. The breast is still tender but the fever, chills & aches are gone.  I hope this never happens again!

Also, don't be afraid to go near baby if you're sick! Any time you're sick, your baby will get the antibodies you're creating through your breastmilk and will not get sick 9/10 times. I had the stomach flu severely and nursed through it and my son never got it, even when it went through the rest of the family!

I'm going thru it right now. I called my doctor and was put on antibiotics. I have been nursing the baby on that side and pumping in between to keep milk flowing thru the ducts. I have been using warm compresses and taking Tylenol and Motrin. I have been fighting this since Friday and am still pretty miserable. Hoping it changes soon. Also drink tons and tons of water.

I just got done with this, plus an infection in my cervix.. The worst 2 days of my life.. I seriously felt like i was dying.. Keep your milk flowing though..
