How to make a relationship last?

Ladies who are currently in/were in a long term relationship, how did you keep your spark? If it ended what do you think went wrong?

Been with my so for 5 years, married for 1. My biggest suggestion to keeping a relationship is to pick and choose your battles. If you love someone, is something that annoys you really worth arguing over? Don't hold grudges, forgive, communicate, be a team, and never give up. Those things might sound simple but they're not. It's constant work and effort but it's worth it. I fall more in love with my husband every single day bc no matter how much he annoys me, he is still my rock, my partner and my best friend. I'm stuck with him for life and were ready for whatever obstacle comes our way.

We've been together for 6 years, the one piece of advice that I can give is don't let others into your relationship. Once you let others in that makes room for their opinions and comments.

If were having a disagreement we don't make a stink in front of others, if were going to argue then we do it out of the public eye. Most of all though we forgive. Neither of us is perfect and we have differences between us, but that's what makes us each individuals in this.

We lobe one another through the good times, the hard times, and the downright shitty times. When I can't be strong he is and vice versa. Remember to love one another and to always say I love you.

Together 15 years and married going on 13 years. Some years are on fire and some year your just trying to keep the ambers lit and get through it. Communication is huge, never stop dating each other, remember to take care of yourself so you never run out, and always, always choose love over everything else even over being right. This was the advise a 70 year old client gave me who had a long loving marriage and I believe it works.

This is our 16th year together and we have been married for more than 8 years. We have a few "rules":-

• Never go to bed angry with each other. Any disagreement has to be resolved before we fall asleep.

• Go to bed at the same time and snuggle before we sleep.

• Respect each other. We don't fart or burp or dig our noses in front of each other. When he is out with his friends and he says something that I disagree with or that makes me angry, I save it till we get home and we discuss it behind closed doors in a calm manner. Over time, we learn what makes us tick.

• Communicate your thoughts and feelings calmly when you are not feeling emotional. The tone and manner you speak to each other is really important.

• Prioritize each other's needs and spend quality time together. Even if you're usually busy at work, make sure to set aside time for a short vacation together, just the two of you.

• Have no expectations of each other. This makes both my hubby and I so much happier. When you have no expectations, he never will disappointment. Celebrate every thing that he does and show your appreciation. You'll be surprised that he will continue to do better.

Been with my hubby for over 7 years, married for 2. I would say communication is big. Be open with each other. I also really like the comment about not letting others into you're relationship. Very good point! And how we keep the spark is keeping date night, making time for each other every day, & don't stop doing the things you did at the beginning of the relationship. It's the little things that count.

Been with my husband for 8 years, married 1.5. Forgive, laugh with each other, be silly and playful with each other, be kind, be appreciative of what they do to keep your lives well, kiss/hug, do things you enjoy together, take space from each other, say you're sorry, give 100%, do things for them you know they don't like doing, share responsibilities, know how they feel loved and speak that language, be patient, always see the good in your partner.

I've been with my bf for 3 years. And I don't even know the answer the that question lol. I guess forgiveness and staying strong through tough times. It's all about how much you love that person. And you have to want to make it last.  Don't always listen to others. Follow your heart.

After 12.5yrs my kids dad and I split up. I think we loved each other, but weren't "in love" we stopped trying. The compliments like "Im so lucky to have you" or other happy reassuring words, practically just stopped. We didn't care to spice things up in bed. His electronics meant more than anything to him. I felt like a single mom doin it all by myself. We just gave up on meeting each others needs. We weren't best friends anymore.

I have a few rules.

1. Go on dates, keep flirting and being cozy with each other.
2. Never put them down in front of others.
3. Try your hardest to be the person they were goo goo ga ga (😍) over. To me this means staying positive and maintaining my appearance.

Go on vacations alone!! You don't have to go far or do anything extravagant. Go get a hotel room in the next town over. Idk where you live, but go to the nearest lake or coast or resort-town and spend the weekend. You have to get out of the daily normal grind every once in a while.

Also, as someone else stated, don't blab about your relationship issues to people (and definitely NOT on social media!!)... Once you open up to them, they feel they have the right to butt in.

But before ALL OF THAT, I'm a firm believer in being friends before having a relationship. Learn how to be best friends and the rest will fall in line.
