His family makes up lies about me

I love my bf but am getting sick and tired of the stupid lies his parents(mainly mom) make up and tell to his huge extended family. I just don't know what to do even though they are lies i don't feel sccepted by his family at all. I feel horrible for telling my bf to step in and chose a side but i just can't deal anymore. My bf can't stand up to his parents at all. Am i wrong to tell my bf that us dating is a choice and if his family can't be civil then its not going to work.
