Can being overweight make it difficult to get pregnant?

I am 5'2 and I weigh 163 lbs. My husband and want to have a baby. I went off birth control pills this past Dec after a year being on them. I still got my period in dec and this month. I am confused because I was told a woman can get pregnant as soon as she can stop taking bc. Thanks

Even though a woman can conceive right away when she comes off birth control, that doesn't mean she will. The chemicals in bc are out of your system in a few days (depending on the type it could be a bit longer) but because bc kept you from ovulating it can take a few cycles for your system to function at full capacity again. As far as the being overweight thing, yes obesity has been linked to infertility. But that's more talking about extreme obesity. It's more important to be healthy and take your prenatals.

It's best to be off BC for a while before trying to get pregnant. At least that's what I've heard. My aunt went off and got pregnant soon after and miscarried, he doctor said it was likely because she had just gone off the birth control and that its best to be off the pill for a few months.

From all the research I've done, having a BMI of 32+ can really impact fertility. They say a healthy BMI for conceiving is 20-24.9, but I am 28 and got pregnant within 4 months of trying. I truly believe you can be overweight and healthy. Prior to getting pregnant, I didn't eat any processed food. Everything I ate I made from scratch with fresh ingredients. I also started working out and I think that really helped as well. Just remember getting pregnant doesn't happen over night for most women, as much as we hope it does when you want a baby.
