Is it okay for people you don't know to ask what your tattoos mean?

I need to know if it's just me, I get super uncomfortable when people ask the meanings of my tattoos. My tattoos have deep meanings that are very personal and if I don't know you I'm not exactly ready to tell you my life story.

Why have your story on your skin if you don't want people to know..  Sometimes people don't know the meaning in general, like a symbol or something.. I know a lot of people who just say, "I got it to remember a important person" or "its a very personal story".. When I have asked people its just because I didn't understand if it had a general meaning or personal meaning.. I don't think people mean to make you uncomfortable hun❤

I feel like if something is so personal you don't want to talk about it you shouldn't put it on your body where everyone can see. Put those in more hidden places so people won't see/ask.

My tattoos all have meanings which are pretty clear but to me they're a deeper meaning - like I have "Grandad" on my wrist - to people it's just Grandad. To me it's the memory of my bestfriend who I lost way too soon in my life - if you don't want people knowing just say it's a personal story

I can see both sides of this topic. Why have a tattoo if you don't want to answer questions about it? But also it may get annoying for people to assume there's a meaning to every tattoo. I want to get an elephant. Because I like elephants lol.

I don't mind. Only two of them have actual meaning behind them. All the others are just art.

I totally agree that sometimes it's hard to talk about the meaning but at the same time I also completely understand the curiosity that leads to people asking.

I say it depends. My pieces are all custom pieces of art that are (imo) beautiful but the meaning is not obvious. If someone off the street I've never seen before asks me the meaning with hardly a hello first, I'm not telling you anything, I don't know you!  But if we are in a conversation and you seem genuinely interested I'll give you the (very) short story. I don't like to talk about myself and keep a very private life. I won't go into detail with a stranger.

Mine are personal but not so personal I don't tell people. Most people just think they're pretty and don't ask meanings. I don't think it's rude or disrespectful to ask. I do it to some I come across. But you don't HAVE to tell them if you don't want to.

I usually ask for meanings behind tattoos. If you don't want to tell the truth make up a silly story to tell. That's what I do if I don't feel comfortable enough to tell the truth about it.
