Membrane Splitting

Has anyone ever had their membrane split by their doctor?(Separating the water sack from the uterus to make you go into labor naturally). My doctor offered me this option today at my 38+4 week check up. He told me it's painful but only for about 10 seconds. I just want a little insight on what it may feel like, 10 seconds is not that long but the way he says it hurts I'm debating on whether or not I wanna get it done.
