Castor oil to induce labor?

Question

37 weeks exactly today and looking for any possible way to get this child wayyyyy out of my body. I read that someone mentioned today that castor oil worked for her, though I guess it's pretty controversial? Any insight? My last day of work is next Monday and I don't want to wait too much longer after that. Any advice is appreciated! 😊

I agree with Jordan 100% and, in my opinion it's not worth the risk at all to see my baby sooner if it'll possibly harm her. I'd rather just wait and be safe not sorry.

Castro oil can be dangerous for babies. Not only does it make you have horrbke diarrhea but baby can poop in utero as well and they can ingest it and become very ill. I wouldn't do it. Try walking or bouncing on a excerise ball instead.

I took it with my son because my doctor wouldn't induce labor for me and I was already 10 days overdue. I took it at around 7 in the evening on a Saturday.. I mixed 2 capfuls with a strawberry shake so I couldn't taste it. I started having contractions at 11 at night, and fell asleep around 12:30, I woke up at 3 and stayed awake until 5 with horrible contractions. Woke up at 6, took a shower.. went to the hospital around 8 and I was dilated to a 5, the doctor broke my water at 10 started pushing at 12 and I had my son at 2:50..

Honestly I am not here to pass moral judgment on a stranger. So I suggest you talk to your doctor about your intention to use castor oil. Sometimes, doctors and midwives are totally okay with it. The problem with castor oil is that 1. You may end up going in active labor FAST- thus your doc needs to be aware 2. You may poop a lot and so can the baby. Tell doc you want to use it and see what they say, ask if he wants you to be close by or head to the hospital early. It's still your body and your pregnancy and your birth so you call the shots. Just fill in your doctor

My sister took it at 38 weeks. It took 12 hours for labor to start and her OB tried stopping it because she denied using anything to jumpstart it. Two days after them giving her medicine to stop her labor, she went into active labor and gave birth to my niece 18 hours later. So, needless to say, she spent 3 days in labor. My niece was perfect and she had no complications but, it wouldn't be the way I'd wanna go. Good luck.

My doc advised against it, she said it can cause meconium in your amniotic fluid which can make baby sick at late stages in pregnancy

My friend took castor oil on her due date for both pregnancies and it worked! No personal experience with it tho

Just wait your only 37 weeks. It may or may not work for you. Try walking and sex. Baby is gonna come when baby is ready.

I've read a lot of articles on castor oil, and I would personally not try it be ause I don't want to have diarrhea. But a lot of articles I've read says that it does NOT cause your baby to poop. That is something that can happen anyway when you are overdue. And is a coincidence.
