How do I tell my mom I want to join the US Coast Guard?

My boyfriend says it's good idea
My mom will think it's just another grandiose idea.  I'm 23 and think I finally know what I want to do and that's to join the US cost guard. I've done my research. I know what to expect. I have no kids. My boyfriend and I have been together for four years and I have hit a rough patch in my life and I think this could be my calling.
I just don't know how to tell my mom

It's a huge decision and commitment. If you've done your research and you know what you're signing up for, just talk to her. Present the facts. You don't need her permission but I'm sure you want her blessing.

Just tell her, and tell her what you have looked up and honestly you are 23 years old. Yes you are her baby but she will have to understand that it is a good choice for you! And being in the USCG you will never have to go to war make sure she knows that. My husband is in the USCG and he says it's the best decision he has ever made.
