anxiety medication.

I am currently prescribed .25 of xanax but I've noticed that one pill of .25 does not help my anxiety in the slightest. I've been using my moms .5 of lorazepam, taking 2 which is 1mg but lower dosage than xanax. I have to take at least 3 of my xanax,  I can't continue taking my moms nor my low dosage. I've tried talking to my doctor about raising the dosage but she doesn't want to because she fears addiction. I do not have addiction, just very severe anxiety. Instead she prescribed a psychiatrist. I don't know what to do, it's keeping me up at night... I can barely sleep or breathe. It's just very hard for me to be calm during the day.
