How many weeks when you first met your midwife?

First time mom here and desperately want s home water birth as I am terrified of hospitals and don't want to bring my baby into the world in one.  I am about 5-6 weeks at what point should I start interviewing midwives?

Start now. You probably won't have your first appointment until 13 weeks, but midwives only take so many clients a month, like 4-6. Otherwise they can't be sure they'll be able to attend each birth. You want to secure your spot as soon as possible.

Not too early! I met with and chose my midwife at 6 weeks. The first appointment wasn't until 12 weeks,  but even at 6 weeks I took one of her last slots for the month of July.

I interviewed midwives at 8 weeks and had my first full prenatal check up at 10.5 weeks. She also drew my blood for genetics testing, so it was fun finding out the gender before our big announcement at 12 weeks!

In my experience, most will see you for your first appointment at 12 weeks. However depending on where you live, they can get booked up pretty fast. I started setting up interviews around week 6 or 7 and couldn't meet with a small handful because they were booked with repeat clients or not available. It's not too early!

I knew my midwife because I'd worked with her before I got pregnant. But I didn't see her until I was 12 weeks. She told me it just depeneded on the client when they wanted to be seen. : )

I was a little late to the midwife search game. Didn't get released from our fertility specialist til 12 weeks, and didn't find our midwife til week 17

Where I live as soon as you pee on the stick you have to contact them. We have such long wait lists for them (they are covered by healthcare so a lot of women chose them) I'm so grateful that for my second because I used them I do get priority because there is that relationship already.

I just decided recently on a home birth. There was only one in our immediate area. I met her and didn't know if she was a good fit for me. So I searched and found another about an hour away who would come out. I just let her know we are interested in her services and I'm 28 weeks along! Lol so excited!

I started looking around 14 weeks and found mine at 16 weeks, which was perfect because my midwife doesn't begin seeing patients until 16 weeks anyways.
