Testing frequency...

I have a question about how often you guys take pregnancy tests. I had some bleeding over a week ago that was very light and only 2 days if that so I did not count it as my period as it is normally very heavy, painful and at least 5 days. I am now 5 days late, took a test on sunday that was negative. Do you guys test every couple of days? Or should I just chalk this up to my cycle being super messed up for whatever reason. I appreciate your thoughts and insight!
