Rings making my finger bleed

I have been wearing the same promise ring from my boyfriend for a year now and all the sudden there's a rash underneath the ring and it was bleeding so I had to take it off, I felt weird without a ring so I put a different ring on a different finger and it also broke out in a rash and cracked the skin. What is this some kind of allergy? My promise ring is real gold.
