Bf wants a jr but i dont?

My boyfriend is really adamant about our son being named after him mainly because every man on both sides of his family has a jr so its a huge tradition. I personally dont like jrs and never have but i offered to switch his middle and lasts name so he's still named after him but he said he wants a jr really badly. I feel a little bad cause he'd be the only one without one but im so against it plus our relationship has been rocky throughout the pregnancy so I'm considering the possibility that it could not work between us. My bf said we could call our son by his middle name so i wouldnt be calling them the same thing but i dont get the point of naming him jr if we wont even call him his real name. Should i just give in or stand my ground?

Maybe do something with both names? Incorporate your boyfriends name but also something for your dad :) maybe make his name a middle name cuz it is a little confusing and use your dad's first or middle for the first name?

Even if you split up, it's still his child so I'm not sure that part is too relevant. If it were me, I'd probably go with it just because it seems like the dads hardly have a voice in anything else. Just a generation or two ago this was a big deal and no one even questioned doing it. I'm not saying that makes it right, just that family tradition can be really important to some people.

I'm in the same situation. I agreed to let him name our son after himself as long as he is 1) given another middle name that I like & will call him & 2) never ever called "junior." It's his first child & we have an amazing relationship so with a little compromise it's something I bent on so he can feel more involved, if not I was going to be picking a name completely by myself. A lot of my family members have something negative to say since we usually don't name children after parents but it's something I'm doing because my boyfriend feels so strongly about it & I feel will truly strengthen the bond between father & son. I say do whatever you feel most comfortable with because I was a strong "no" until one day I sat and really thought about it on my own.

There are so many names in the world. Although i understand his point, i'd say give your baby his own personality. Being somones shadow and living up to name is quite difficult task sometimes. If he wants baby to have his name, give his first name as babies middle name but first name should be only his!

My brother was very adamant that his son be a Jr.(4th) Because it's been that way in our family. My sister in law agreed to give him my brother's name, but everyone calls my nephew by his middle name (so what your bf suggested) and we don't even think twice. On legal stuff he'll have his dad's name, but that's about it. My husband didn't want a Jr so I didn't have to deal with that, but had he wanted it, I would have done what my brother and SIL did. And I actually like my husband's name, just wouldn't want the confusion of both of them responding when I call one.

If we've a boy our baby will be a jnr, I'll personally be calling him christopher or cj our lil Chris, so maybe as a compromise come up with a we nickname sorry if this doesn't help
