Overprotective/Controlling Boyfriend

So my boyfriend is actually really sweet and he really cares about me but sometimes that tends to seem or to be a little controlling. He said he doesn't want me to go to parties because he doesn't like parties or alcohol. So he doesn't want me to go out at night, don't go to parties and stuff. And when I tell him I don't have time to go out with him because I already have plans with a friend he gets a little mad  especially if I go out when it's dark outside. So I don't know how to deal with that because I actually really like him but at the same time I think he's overreacting?
