VBAC or C Section?

So I'm almost 38 weeks and have gestational diabetes, my baby also has a heart defect. I've had my mind made up to try as hard as I can for a VBAC, but getting diagnosed late with GD complicates my plan - I'm concerned if I wait it out for a VBAC (they'll let me go to 41 weeks) that I'm compromising my baby's health. I already have twice weekly appts and if anything looks off ill get a c sections, I just feel like maybe I should schedule one for 39 weeks now...
