Dark and light period

My glow said that I was due to start today, usually when I start I have pretty bad cramps and then the bleeding starts. That happened today but my blood was a very dark red/ brown and it's kind of light. I've had safe sex once this month so I doubt I'm not pregnant and I started when I'm supposed to but I'm confused!
