When does 3rd trimester start?

I thought it was 27 or 28 Weeks but this app told me I'm in my 3rd trimester and I'm only 26 weeks.......

I know I'm due on may 9th. It's past Feb 9th, so it's 3 months away... So that's the 3rd trimester.  I'm 27 weeks.

It all gets so confusing. Would be nice if they picked and stuck to one standard.

You could look at it like this?  You're actually pregnant 38 weeks (2 weeks are added on from date of LMP to conception).  So 38 weeks/3 trimesters = 12.66

1st Trimester = 12.66 weeks (+ the extra 2 = 14.66 weeks 14w5d) 
2nd Trimester = 25.33 weeks (+ the two extra = 27.33 weeks 27w2d) 
3rd Trimester = 37.99 weeks (+ the two extra = 39.99 - call it 40)

I only know that 28 is for sure the third trimester due to having an apt yesterday (at 28w 2d) and her saying "congrats on being in the third trimester! I'll be seeing you every two weeks now!"

I voted for 27 because I've seen that in a lot of apps and charts and it works for me. My doctor's office says 28.

My midwives count it as the end of 27th week, or 28 weeks, so that's what I'm going with. They basically divide the trimesters into 14 weeks each, which makes sense considering a lot of pregnancies go well past 40 weeks.
