Morning after pill?

I'm four weeks postpartum and I'm having sex for the first time in months tonight and my partner has no condoms and I'm not on any contraception yet but we obviously don't want to get me pregnant again so he suggested I take the morning after pill? I've never needed to take it before so I'm not sure what to expect but since I haven't gotten my first period back yet is it nessecary that I go and take it? Id rather not take it because I've only just finally stopped bleeding since the delivery but if I have to I will.
