Pacifiers for breastfed babies?

I'll admit that I probably have an irrational fear of SIDS. My son was born 4lbs 13oz and is still very tiny at a month of age (he's around 5 lbs 8oz currently). He's exclusively breastfed, and I'm debating if I should give him a pacifier after about 6 to 8 weeks for bedtime and naps to help prevent against SIDS. However, I've read through multiple sources that any need to suckle should happen at the breast because babies have no other need to suck except for food. 
What are all of your opinions?

My daughter has never had any problems switching between breastfeeding, feedings with bottles and using a pacifier. She is only 2 weeks old but is a champ water and likes to comfort nurse. I can't have her on my boobs for hours on end so we got a pacifier and were finally able to get her to sleep. That being said every baby is different. My first born had horrible nipple confusion and I wasn't able to breastfeed her because she wouldn't latch. She would take a bottle but not a pacifier . She preferred sucking on her fingers. Even now as a 5 year old she will occasionally suck her fingers if she is sick or sometimes in her sleep.

I introduced a pacifier to my son at 3 weeks because he was constantly on my boobs, even when he was not hungry. He didn't like it at first and I went to the store and bout 8 different pacifiers and after a couple of days or so, he finally took 1. Now at 12 weeks he only take this type of pacifier. It is a lifesaver for me because he can south himself and it frees me up to do other things. He is still exclusively breastfed.

I had a lactation consultant tell me to use a pacifier for my ebf baby. If you notice nipple confusion then stop with the pacifier, your baby won't remember it after a few hours. Also, sids isn't exactly preventable. We can do everything 100% right and something horrible could still happen. Just follow your instincts and make sure your baby is happy and healthy and have faith that you are doing your job right.

The hospital I delivered at didn't allow pacifiers. The children's hospital she was admitted to for jaundice at 5 days old used pacifiers. LOs like to explore with their mouth so a pacifier helps.

I've had three babies that I breastfed and all needed supplementing at the beginning. The all started using a paci day 1. Never had issues with nipple confusing.

I used a paci since the day my baby was born and she is exclusively breast fed! We use the avent soothie they have from the hospital. She loves it and there is no nipple confusion because she latches on just fine. She is also on the bottle. I pump and bottle feed her at times to get her used to other people feeding her. So far so good! She will be two months on the 29th

The second night in the hospital I gave my son a pacifier. He was having a little trouble latching and he still is, but it hasn't gotten worse. In fact he's getting better little by little. My lactation consultant told me it was fine unless his latch gets worse, and then to not give it to him until it improves again. I gave it to him to calm him down, and trust me it was wonderful. He loves it and it's one of the only things that calm him down.

My lactation consultant had me hand express breast milk onto the pacifier each time I used it. We are a week in and it's great for those fussy diaper changes or outfit changes. She is breastfeeding just a vigorously as her first day. :)

I just had my third baby and all exclusively breastfed. Once your baby has learned to latch well for feedings, the pacifier will not cause shy issues. My daughter is 12 days old, and loves her pacifier for comfort.
