When to start maternity leave?

Question

When do most people start maternity leave? A couple weeks before due date, or right after baby is here? I'm 31 weeks, and feel like I can't work much longer. I'm just curious.

I went on leave at 28 weeks due to medical issues. Being 33 weeks pregnant it kicks my ass to even clean the house. I couldn't imagine being at work. I would be miserable! Go when you feel like it. Pregnancy sucks and if you can afford it and work lets you do it. I'm sure if you ask your doctor they will write you a note of work isn't supportive.

I HAD to start mine at 28 weeks as I've been on bedrest and off sick since 24 weeks due to major complications and couldn't survive off of the sick pay, you start it when your ready, when you feel you need to :)

I was working until last Friday -38 weeks as a preschool teacher. If I would have had a choice (money wise), I would have stopped working at 36 weeks. All the up and down with the little ones made my backache unbearable - Even though at 37 weeks I was mainly doing office work. But with all the walking through the school in the last two weeks my back was killing me. All the pain is gone now that I'm at home and can put my feet up.

I went out of work at 37wks but they still started my maternity leave when she was born at 39+2. I was so lucky considering I was only given 7wks of maternity leave anyways.

It's really depends. I am 32 weeks and I don't feel like I can work anymore. But if I go on maternity leave right now I won't be able to stay out much longer after the baby is born. I really want to maximize the amount of time I spend with the baby. I will be able to be out for about 12 to 16 weeks so if I go on leave right now that would mean I would lose 8 weeks when the baby is here.

So as long as I'm able to drag myself out of bed and get to work I'm going to go in. And of course as long as the doctor says it's still OK

We're are u from huni? I think it depends because I wanted to leave about 36 weeks, but my company have had to relocate so we have been made redundant, so I have had to use my holidays up, so I'm leaving at 32 weeks now. 😊
