Progesterone and Pre-Term delivery?

My doctor told me today that I should consider taking progesterone shots after I reach 16 weeks to help prevent pre-term delivery. I delivered at 36.4 weeks with my first pregnancy and had a miscarriage 2 years ago. Has anyone had to take progesterone for preterm labor? What was your experience?

I'm currently on the shots. I delivered twins at 17 weeks & my daughter at 27 weeks. I started the shots at 16 weeks. I just did my 7th shot last night (22 weeks). So far so good. I'm hoping it's going to get me further. My doctor gave me a prescription for it & I get a 5 week supply each time. My husband gives me the shot at home every Thursday. They had said we could do it in the arm or butt/hip. The first 4 weeks we alternated between my arms which that hurt & I could feel the medicine going into my arm. I also would get lumps. So the last 3 weeks we've been doing them in my butt/hip & it's sooo much better! It definitely doesn't hurt or bother me as much.

I had my first daughter at 36.0 weeks, my second son at 38 weeks, then a miscarriage & now pregnant with my daughter (currently 30 weeks) this time around my doctor recommended the progesterone shots & I have a nurse come to my house every week to give it to me. It goes in my hip/upper butt area & stings for a couple of minutes then itches the rest of the day but other than that it hasn't done anything I've noticed! My pregnancy has been completely normal & just like the first two. My only concern is with the progesterone is it could delay labor making it take longer or end in a c section which I definitely don't want so even though my doctor wants me to keep getting them till 37-38 weeks I plan on stopping by 36 weeks- they say the drug stays in your system go about 9 days before completely wearing off & a lot of women go into labor shortly after that.

I do the progesterone vaginal suppositories nightly to stave off pre term labor,,. It keeps the uterus relaxed... It doesn't hurt to take the extra measure :)

I didn't get shots but I had to take the pills for the entire first trimester and second.
