Is the weight of your newborn genetic?

My mom told me I was 10+ lbs when I was born, does that increase the chances of me having a big baby?

It depends on your pregnancy. If you have an uncomplicated pregnancy then genetics may have a bit more to do with the weight. Both my family and my hubby's have always had huge babies, but my mil was very small because her mother was a chain smoker and alcoholic during the pregnancy.

I have heard that the baby is usually around the weight that the mother was at birth.. But who knows if it's actually true!! Haha guess we will see when my little guy comes, but so far looks like he will be a big boy! Haha 💙

I read something recently that it's a combination of genetics. The fathers genes work for a bigger baby (more likely to survive) and the mothers genes try for a smaller baby (conserve resources). So like most things a combination of nature and nurture.

My ultrasound tech told me yes, it's genetic. My husband and I were both bigger babies. I was 8+ and he was 9+ and they are telling us it looks like baby will be 9lbs+ as well. However, my sister was 5lbs full term and her husband was 7lbs and my niece came out almost 9 pounds lol and my sister is little. She's 5'0 and weighed about 110lbs when she got pregnant. So who knows.

Yes and no,weight sometimes does depend on the both the parents. I was 7 pounds and my boyfriend was a 10 pounder and our daughter was 6 pounds.
