Engagement ring

My fiancé proposed and I was over the moon however the ring was a family heirloom that I hate. He even added a stone himself that makes it even worse. He put so much thought into it but it's completely impractical and in my opinion, ugly. I don't wear it and say it's a bit too big/ would catch on things at work. I feel awful but I really hate that ring! What should I do?
