Am I reading too much into this? (Long distance)

I was fwb with this guy before he left for basic training for the navy, we stopped talking slightly before. I had feelings for him that I never said anything about but he never gave me that same vibe back so I never talked about it with him. He messaged me after he got his phone back and we've been talking about everyday since. It started out as just reminiscing and joking to talking about feelings and he was the one who mentioned it first. He told me he wanted to see me again so I basically spent about 500 to visit him next weekend. He now lives 6 hours away so not awfully far but still far. I like him and I understand that his line of work is vey important and would come first and I'd have to deal with deployments and it would be difficult, but I would totally do it for him.
