Birth control

So before I started this new birth control I was on a different one and haven't had any birth control since August on 2015. So now that I'm on birth control again I feel like my cramps are 10000000 times more severe than the first time I started bc. Is this normal ? Is it because I haven't had hormones in so long that it's causing this ? Please someone answer my question. I'm literally on the verge of tears waiting for my prescribed naproxen to kick in.
