Sex after period

So I'm seeing my boyfriend this weekend and I'm a little curious as to how the whole pill thing works. I've been on it for almost 2 years so I know what it does, but my ex always used a condom. My current BF doesn't (but he also pulls out). If i just finished my period I don't have to wait a week of taking the pill before I'll be safe again right? Because I don't take it for a week while I'm on my period. Hopefully this makes sense and I can get some help 😊
