Aloe Vera

Does anyone here use fresh, natural Aloe Vera as a treatment for acne and acne scars? I know it's supposed to work wonders, but I've never really tried it until this evening. I found a recipient that said to boil the stem, crush it up, mix it with honey, and apply as a face mask. I don't really understand why I had to boil it, as the juices inside were just the same as when it's not boiled. It was also a slimey, messy mess so I'm not sure if I did it right?
