Zika Virus Florida?

Question

Has there been any cases of people contracting Zika virus while in Florida? I wanted to travel to the keys for my babymoon but hesitant to do so.

I'm from Daytona/Orlando area. Nothing to worry about here. Alot of Floridans who got it were traveling outside the country. It's safe so far. Just don't be out after twilight unless by a fire.

I live in South Flordia and spend a lot of time in the keys. There have been 3 cases of Zika in the Miami-Dade county area however all were from people who traveled out of the country and returned home with it. There have been no reported cases of the disease originating from south Florida. My his fan is from the keys and we drive down every Wednesday for softball. We are still cautious and layer our clothes and wear bug spray. We don't go if it had just rained or is overly humid. Hope this helps and enjoy your trip.

We had booked back in December to go in late April but my doctor strongly advised against me going "just to be on the safe side". I didn't want to take any chances of be a nervous wreck down there so I cancelled. It sucks, because Florida is not on the CDC list the airline wouldn't refund our money only give me a credit to use by December 2016:(

There are no known cases contracted in the US, they're all from people who have traveled. It has been spread through sexual contact, so they say use condoms if your spouse becomes infected. We're moving to Florida in may and I'm nervous!

Not yet but my doc is guessing by May there will be, so depending on when you want to go you may be okay. I was living in the Caribbean when I found out I was pregnant and had to move back to Wisconsin immediately, so I've been watching all the news really carefully and have talked with many high risk docs on the issue and there are just so many unknowns right now that it is hard to get definitive answers to anything.

I'm from Key west, Florida and cancelled my trip home this week because the doctor told me if I went I might want to wear long sleeves the whole time (which is pure craziness in Florida) also, they have a huge cruise ship terminal in key west which is what concerned me. I was just scared to risk it

The Florida Department of Health website has daily updated Zika information for all the counties in Florida. We're traveling to St Augustine later this month and there are no travel advisories for pregnant women; and there's been only one travel-acquired case in the county we'll be in. In Florida most of the travel-acquired cases have been reported in the Miami-Dade area; which will probably be where the first locally acquired case will be if that does happen. Just be informed of what's happening where you're traveling and take extra precautions (bug spray, keep windows closed when indoors, etc.) and you, and baby, will be fine!

According to the CDC there are no known cases of The Zima virus being contracted in the US. They have had cases in US territories (Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, and America Samoa)

All cases reported in the US are from people who have travelled to other countries and contracted it.
