Anyone not sharing names?

Question

We decided to wait until the baby is born to tell everyone the name. We don't want to hear people's comments or recommendations or try to sway us. We chose names to name after loved ones who have passed(a custom in our religion) and we don't care to hear of we should have picked someone else... Are we wrong to not tell the grandparents?

I wish we would have waited. I've heard very few positive comments about the name we chose. Most comments are negative, all of which from family and friends so it's hurtful. My sister made fun of it actually. The name is my fiancees grandfather's name so it really upsets him to hear the negatives. You do whatever you want. If you wait, that's your choice and should be respected for it.

I wanted to tell people as a way of calling dibs (I don't really care if people steal it as long as everyone knows I was already planning on using it.) my sister says I stole her va y name (it's our maiden name so yeah, I guess she is 3 years older than me and still single so yeah, it's been her name longer but it's not like she is even married or pregnant, what if she never has a girl??) we got into a fight and I was heartbroken I thought I was going to have to just change the name. So yeah....maybe you shouldn't tell people lol

We find out what we're having on Monday. If it's a boy he'll be named after my boyfriend so I'll tell people. But if it's a girl, whatever name we come up with we probably won't tell anyone until she gets here. Because honestly I don't care for anyone's opinions. Maybe tell a couple close friends but that's it.  I can totally understand why you want to do that.

We gave my parents the list of names we were thinking about, and they hated every single one of them. So we're keeping the name we've chosen secret.

I've always been curious about why people did this. My view is that I want feed back on names. If I've picked out something that sounds awful to most people/is spelled weird/is an easy bullying target then I want to know so that my kid doesn't have to deal with that for the rest of his life. Just my opinion. To each their own.
