Drama with birth
My doctor sent me to the hospital for monitoring the morning of 2/29 - my blood pressure was up and I felt awful. I developed severe preeclampsia with my older son, so we were trying to avoid that. At the hospital my blood pressure came down and my lab work looked fine, but if I stood up at all my BP went up and contractions would start. So my doctor decided it was time to deliver before things got bad. Well the nurses stepped in and got admin involved - because they didn't think I was sick enough to deliver early, I was 36+3. So admin stopped my c-section. Nevermind that my doctor knows me and I knew how my body felt, and nevermind that the nurses never once checked on me or asked how I was feeling - they only looked at my numbers on paper.
So they decided to admit me for 24 hours of observation- but by the time they made that decision I was having contractions every 2 minutes. Doctor checked me and I had dilated to a 1. They waited a couple of hours - contractions were continuous. The nurses tried to stop it again saying that I was only contracting because they checked me. Nevermind that I had been having consistent contractions for over 6 hours at that point.
My doctor was finally able to do my c-section at 6:15 that evening. Baby's head was even slightly coned from being in the birth canal - but the nurses still didn't think I was actually in labor. I'm not sure why they were so opposed to me delivering - I guess they were against a leap year baby. But he's here and healthy (after a short NICU stay) and I feel better than I have my entire pregnancy.
