How can pets and babies know you're pregnant?

Been said that pets and babies are the first to know that a women is pregnant. How? Can they  sense it? How do they know? 
Any stories?

Yes. My dog was closer to my then husband. When I got pregnant, before I even knew, she started following me around constantly and always wanted to be with me. When I was about two days from going into labor she was very protective. Didn't even want my husband touching me until I told her it was okay. When I went into labor she guarded the door to the apartment and would bark whenever someone came nearby to alert them to stay away.

I work in a nursery & one of the children in our Pre-School room said to my colleague that I had a baby in my tummy. I tested 4 days later & it was positive! Unfortunately I lost the baby but it kinda freaked me out that a child had picked up on the fact that I was pregnant before I knew myself! :)

I have a German Shepherd that is just over a year old and now that I'm pregnant she follows me everywhere lol when I go to the restroom she waits right outside the door.

When I was pregnant my dog would always follow me around and when I sat down on the kitchen table she would be right under my chair... She would even get up when I went to the bathroom and wait for me to come out and like sniff to make sure I was still there... 😊 after my baby was born she would always be with him and if the door was unlocked she would sit there and just look at it until I locked it... Unfortunately she passed away... When my son was a 1yr and half old...  I miss her a lot 😢😢

When I got pregnant with my first, I had a feeling before I actually tested because they all (I have 3, 2 females and a male) wanted to snuggle my belly and would instantly purr as soon as they touched it. Plus, one was always “standing guard” wherever I went.

We are pretty sure my golden retriever knew I was pregnant a week before we knew, he started pulling my underwear out of the dirty laundry and sucking on them! He does it every day now and it's soooo weird. He's also clingier (didn't know that was possible!) towards me and always follows me into the bathroom.
