How bad is the mirena?

So getting my tubes tried is too scary for me right now but I want something semi permanent, I was thinking the mirena (IUD) I want to know your ladies opinion on it and also how bad/painful it was to get? TIA

It's different for everyone, but anyone I've known personally who got it had a HORRIBLE experience. Excess bleeding, it not staying in place, all sorts of horror stories

I have friends who have it that swear by it. I had it but had never been on a progesterone birth control before and I gained 60 lbs in 6 months. I would recommend trying a pill form of a progesterone birth control before committing to the mirena just so you know how your body will react to the hormone. Or you can get the paraguard copper IUD that doesn't have any hormones

I had it after I had my son Bc we didn't want another one right away. And for me, it was the best thing ever!!!! My periods were lighter and less painful, my skin glowed, I just felt awesome. But beware Bc everyone's experience and expectations are different. It is better than the other copper one, espnfor me Bc I'm allergic to copper anyway, but the mirena for most is the lesser of the two. It's hard to predict how your body will react but for me and a few of my friends who have gotten it, it's been the best. Speak to your doc and ask a lot of questions to see which you are comfortable with. Good luck!

Mirena didn't hurt to get, it wasn't the most comfortable but it wasn't bad.  However, it made me an insta bitch and the mood swings were non stop for the 5 months I had it.  I had it removed and within a couple weeks the mood swings were gone.

Had it for 5 years. No problems. Loved it. My period stopped altogether. No issues going in, but coming out was painful (rare occurrence, I'm told, that I experienced a painful removal) due to the Mirena tilting to where the doc couldn't find the strings, so he had to go a little deeper and at an angle to remove. But, I'll be doing Mirena (or another IUD) after this baby is born.

I had mine for 5 years. No problems at all. Had a bit of cramping after it was put in but didn't hurt at all when being put it. Best thing ever. After this baby I plan on getting it again.

I didn't even cramp when it was placed. I spotted for 2-3 days. It's been totally fine for me.

I had Mirena for 3 years ,it worked excellent, no period, I didn't gain weight at all. Decided to take it out last year,and got pregnant the right away!
Everyone is different tho!
