Baby Oscar (natural birth story, FTM)
My little Oscar couldn't wait till April and decided to surprise mom and dad on their last day of their babymoon, at 35.5 weeks.
Here's my natural birth study:
DH and I went to Vermont for a babymoon (we live in NYC). On the last day as we were heading home, but still 4 hour drive away, my water broke and I lost my mucus plug.
Luckily, there was a hospital 3 min drive away.
By the time we were checked into triage, and just 45 min later, I was 4 cm/ 80% effaced.
I asked to do a natural birth, no epi and no IV but hep lock
Within couple of hours I was 6-7cm and having strong contractions. My room had a jacuzzi and I spent an hour or more in there.
Transition contractions were very painful, but in between, my body would relax and I was able to rest in between. My husband kept applying back support and reminded me to breath through.
After 4 hours, I was at 10 cm. I ended up pushing in a semi seated position on the bed with my legs propped against a squatting bar. The midwife made a rope to pull from the bar and eventually, two midwives helped me pull myself up with each contraction while the doctor sat underneath the bar and kept massaging and stretching my perineum with olive oil.
At this point I was in a lot of pain, not going to lie. But once again, body allowed to rest between each contraction. I actually dozed off couple of times! Finally baby arrived after an hour of pushing!
I tore just a little and got one small stitch.
Baby arrived crying and scored 9 on APGAR!
He's 6LB10oz and 18" long. We cannot wait to go home!
