Is sex safe?

I'm going to be 31 weeks tomorrow, and haven't had sex since I conceived. Me and my bd weren't together my whole pregnancy but are working on things now. If we were to have sex, would it be safe? I'm only scared because I haven't had sex in so long. Or should I just wait it out till after the baby and after recovery?

My friend was on and off the her bf too so when she did have sex around this time she said it hurt her a lot since she hasn't done it in so long. So if it hurts it's okay to stop and wait till you feel comfortable again cause it's about how you feel not just to please him
