Should I ask for a membrane sweep?

I think I should, I'll be 39-40 weeks on Tuesday (from what my doc said) and she's measuring two weeks ahead. Is it painful? Can she do it at 39 weeks? What are the symptoms afterwards and how long did it take for you to go into labor after it was done? FTM here :)

Take evening primrose oil.  It's a safe vitamin that you can take orally or vaginally to help ripen your cervix.  I took it for 2 days and went into labor.   Also acupressure works too. My friend did a membrane sweep and was in labor a few hours later. I've heard of some women having their membranes swept and it didn't help much.

If your body isn't ready for labor, sweeping your membranes won't matter they will just reattach. However it doesn't hurt to try since your now full term at 39 weeks. I never had it done, but women post saying it's very painful to very uncomfortable so I guess depends on your tolerance. Most say they spot after......and some have it done multiple times until labor starts

I had my membranes swept with my first pregnancy went into labor 48 hours later. Honestly though if I had asked more questions and researched it I would have told my doctor not to do it. It was very painful for me. I ended up having a c-section and I think my body just wasn't ready. I was 39 weeks when they did it and dialating and effacing. Looking back I don't really know why Doctor did it.
