Pump and dump?

Question

I have a couple of questions for drinking while nursing. I'm MOH in a wedding when my baby will be approximately 6 weeks old, so I'm expecting this will be the first time I'll have to face this hurdle. So I'd love some guidance.

1. How long after drinking alcohol does it take to affect your supply?

2. Is there any amount of alcohol that is safe to drink before it affects the supply?

3. How long do I need to wait after drinking to be sure it's out of my supply?

If you're drunk, your milk is drunk. Dump it.

Otherwise, you can still use the milk.

So I just talked to the doc about this yesterday. She said it affects it pretty much right away. And that is just like a 5 oz glass of wine or a 12 oz beer. It takes a full 2 hours after you finish your drinks for it to be gone from your milk supply/blood. If you drink liquor or more than just one "standard" size drink, I'm not sure. I hope that helps!

They say if you can drive you can nurse if I want to indulge in a glass of wine or beer I'll wait until after i nurse drink then in about an hour give or take you're good to nurse no need to pump and dump unless you're drinking a lot

From what I know everyone's body metabolizes alcohol and food differently so there is no way to know how fast it'll be in your breastmilk or how fast it'll leave it...but generally they say an hour a drink, so if you're feeding every two hours you can have a drink at the beginning of the two hours then two hours later you can feed without it affecting baby. No pump and dump necessary. But I don't know how it works if you're having multiple drinks over a few hours and/or how long you're going to be out for (are you leaving baby at home with expressed milk or is baby coming with you?). I've even heard if you're sober enough to drive you can breastfeed, but I don't know if I would trust that.

I'm a MOH three weeks after my estimated due date lol! Planning on having pre pumped milk available and maybe just a few beers, people have told me that beer actually helps produce more milk, so pumping and dumping is also likely by the end of the night! Honestly I might not even drink at all because I'm crazy paranoid about everything 😝

With alcohol, you do not need to pump & dump. The amount of alcohol in your breastmilk cannot be higher than the amount in your blood. 
For example, if you had a blood-alcohol level of 0.08 (which is the legal limit for driving where I live) then your breastmilk could have up to 0.08% alcohol content. That's less alcohol than what is contained in a glass of orange juice (orange juice naturally contains up to 0.1% alcohol because there is some fermentation of sugars). This amount of alcohol in your breastmilk will not have any harmful effects on your baby, no matter how small your baby is. 
Remember, the percentage of alcohol content in your breastmilk does not equal what your baby's blood-alcohol level would be if they drink your breastmilk. It is far far far less. Just the same way that if you took a shot of 40% alcohol, your blood alcohol content is not equal to the alcohol percentage in your drink.

Order the strips off amazon, they check the alcohol level in breast milk. Some doctors recommend a beer or two to let your milk down. I think if you were drinking hard A it might be a little different. Just pump as much as you can before the wedding a freeze the milk. That way you don't really have to worry. You can pump and dump for 24 hours and be fine.
