How do I tell my parents?

I'm 21 and my partner is 24. We've been together for 5 years now and been living together for just over a year. We earn £40k a year between us, we're very happy and been TTC since we moved in together. His parents are so excited to have a grandchild but I haven't told my parents we're even trying. I know they will be judgemental and upset because I haven't travelled or had many holidays etc... When we do finally get that BFP I'm so scared to tell them. Anyone else been in the same boat? xx

EDIT: does anyone disagree and think we should wait? I'd be keen to hear your opinions too x

I had my first son when I was 16 & my parents were terribly disappointed & upset with me (not planned). They did come around once I started getting bigger and we're over the moon when my son was born. My parents had said they don't want me to have anymore until I'm older & they would be disappointed again if I had another. When me and my OH decided to TTC number 2 (Im now 20) I kept it from my parents as I thought they'd be upset. You've gotta think to yourself, it's your life & your responsibility & obviously it's not nice to not have your parents 'blessing' but being a mother is so worth it! When I told my parents I was expecting number 2 I was shocked that they congratulated me and are actually excited this time around, maybe your parents will be the same. If not I'm sure they'll come around further on in your pregnancy or once you've had your baby. You're an adult now, no one can tell you when you are/are not ready to have a child (: X

This is very similar to my life too!! I was terrified to tell my parents (they are the more strict&negative type of people) but they were thrilled when I told them. I did end up miscarrying last month but at least I know I have their support for next time. I say go for it. As long as you are financially stable, and you are both happy, you make the choices in your life. Make sure you have a plan who will be the future babysitter or if you will need daycare because that was something we didn't think about (daycare is nearly $1,000 a month here in Pennsylvania)

I think if you have been together for so long and living together they are preparing for it as they know it's just a matter of time before it happens. Maybe have a casual convo with them or just your mom. Asking her (if she got her kids young) if she would have waited if she could go back or if she got you at a older age asked her the other way around. And all that as a casual convo could lead to you also sharing your thoughts that you would rather have kids young... she might give you an idea of her feelings and if they are not so keen on it your giving her something to think about and kind of get used to the fact that you would prefer it this way. That way they can get over it and en when time comes they can be happy with you!
