Dreams about ex

Anyone have any insight or opinions on dreams? I have an ex boyfriend that broke up with me, which was like 8 years ago lol. We grew up together. We've both obviously moved on and our happy in new relationships. Our break up was not a bad or messy break up. We were upset and I'm still not exactly sure the reasoning but we've always remained on good terms. We don't talk often. Not really at all. And like I said we are both in happy long term relationships..so I'm confused as to why for the past couple of years I've been having dreams about my ex...makes me feel really weird :/ anyone have any ideas? The dreams are always of us getting back together or still being together...
