Mid Wife or OB-GYN for prenatal visits and delivery, and why?

I've always been gravitated towards natural childbirth. The rate of intervention and c-section in the hospitals in my area are very high. I originally wanted to have a homebirth but my state has very strict rules on what midwives can and can't do in the home so I decided to go to the midwifery center as they have the lowest rates (bc they don't offer interventions). The value skin to skin and encourage rooming in after birth. Their whole philosophy surrounding birth coincides perfectly with mine. The center is also really lovely- the rooms look like suites with a queen size bed, birthing tub, etc. I looove my midwives and plan to go back for subsequent pregnancies.

I prefer OBGYN. They have more medical training. I had to meet with the nurse midwife at my practice invade no doctors are available and I didn't like her one bit. She was telling me wives tales like they were fact. My OB knows I want to have a natural birth if possible and he is very supportive of that but he also understands my medical history may complicate it. I trust him way more. Not all doctors are against natural births. They educate women on what complications can happen with different medications too. At the hospital I am going to c-sections rates are almost the lowest in the nation.

I think it depends on the hospital and your OB. The hospital we are going to offers all kinds of options for birthing (they have a pool, the balls, etc), babies do not leave the room unless a visit to NICU is required. They even allow your pets to visit as long as they vaccinated (if you are on hospital bed rest). As long as your OB is good with everything and your hospital is equipped, you should be able to have a good experience.

I prefer all natural births so I'm so happy I have a midwife this pregnancy, but I still will have to see a ob once so that if any goes wrong my midwife csn call on the ob.

I had all natural delivery with my first ( if that's a priority for you) with a great supportive obgyn at a hospital. If for some reason I couldn't have kept my ob I likely would have opted for a birth center birth with a midwife. There's a birth center at the hospital I'm delivering at but I can't have my baby at that one and keep my ob. With my first I really liked the security of the hospital in case anything went wrong or I had a rough pregnancy.  (my hubby too) this time I just wouldn't trade my ob because she was so supportive of my birth plan last time and encouraging.

Midwives in general are just more homely... The birthing center is just like a second home, you get your own room and bed for me it makes the experience less daunting ....and no strange nurses showing up on the day you give birth

I'm using an OB and delivering at the most open minded hospital in the city. I'm having twins so I have to be open to things not going how I imagine. I did hire a doula though. She's fantastic. I'm confident in my team.

I am using a midwife because there is a much better chance she will be the one delivering it baby than the ob (doctors are either on call or not, they will not come in just for you). Also our midwife will come to the house after the baby is born to help with breastfeeding and that kind of thing for a few weeks after baby is born. I like the more personal touch, I feel like our midwife will know me well and really be comforting during the whole labour and post labour thing.
