Depression and birth control

Hi all! I have my first OBGYN visit in about a week or so and after I booked my appointment I had a thought. Would starting birth control affect my depression? Is there anyone out there who suffered from depression before they started birth control and how did your depression change or affect you after you'd been taking birth control for a while? Also what kinds of birth control have you used or maybe switched to after testing some out if you were able to?
